王素（1794—1877）字小梅，晚號遜之，甘泉（今江蘇揚州）人。幼拜師鮑芥田，又多臨華岩，凡人物、花鳥、走獸、蟲魚，無不入妙。道光初與魏小眠、王應祥並駕。自悔書拙，每晨必臨數百字，至老無間。 鹹豐三年（1853）太平天國克揚州，遷邵伯，又遷郭村，逾年返揚。有請畫南北鬥星君像，乃詣蕃厘觀圖其塑像為稿本，其虛心若此。篆刻效法漢印，為畫名所掩。卒年八十四。
