According to the author the outfit was owned originally by an US Navy intelligence officer stationed in Japan, who also got the black S72 by special order. We can not verify if the black paint finish was done by Nikon or not. Gandy believes it is a chrome S72 custom repainted by the factory. It is also interesting, that the camera has the focusing scale in feet, only 14 S3Ms have been verified in feet.
