A Meissen large Kakiemon dish, c.1730, blue crossed sword mark, painted in the Kakiemon palette enriched in gilding, with flowering branches issuing from stylised blue rockwork, a bird swooping down to the left, the border with three flowering branches, one with pomegranates, within a brown line rim, 33.8cm diameter Note: For two saucers with a related Kakiemon design in the Schneider Collection, Schloss Lustheim, Munich, see Julia Weber, Meißener Porzellane mit Dekoren nach ostasiatischen Vorbildern, Munich, 2013, Vol. II, Kat. 190.Overall this charger is bright and fresh in appearance. In more detail: There is a small restored shallow rim chip at 9 o’clock – this has been overpainted in order to disguise it. The repair appears to be over-zealous, as the area which has been overpainted appears to be much larger than the chip itself (the chip appears to be heart-shaped and is 6 mm. x 11 mm.). This repair has yellowed a little with age (ideally a restorer could carry out this repair again as it would be economical to do). There is a fine hairline crack from the rim at 11 o’clock to the edge of the well – this is minor and it is very slightly dirt-filled, but it’s not very noticeable. There is a minute associated filled triangular loss at the rim. In addition, there are some areas of very slight wear to the surface in places – these are all very minor.
