An English brass and steel burr walnut marquetry panel, late 18th/early 19th century, possibly formally a desk blotter, with scrolling acanthus decoration, 29cm high Provenance: The Geoffrey and Fay Elliot collection. The panel is constructed in four veneers sandwiched together. These have started to separate and crack at the top. The metalwork inlay is in good order with no apparent losses or lifting. One or two tiny losses to the walnut veneers between the metal inlay. As can be seen from the online image, the bottom edge is lacking a strip of veneer. The reverse has a square block with a hole to the centre where a support has formally been positioned.
