15th C./16th C. Nepalese. A Very Rare Nepalese Gilt Bronze Figure of Indra. The god Indra is distinguished by the characteristic horizontal mark on the forehead indicating a third eye. Shown with right hand resting on his knee and his left supporting his weight, the face with serene expression with downcast eyes, surmounted by a tall crown with the hair arranged in a chignon. Compare a close related gilt copper indra, sold in Sotheby's New York, Lot 321, for 52,920 USD on 22 September 2020.
