Translation provided by Youdao
In a contemporary frame. After his artistic training in Venice with Antonio Zanchi, Francesco Trevisani became one of the most prominent artists in Rome, where he arrived in 1678, thanks to numerous public and private commissions. Saint Jerome appears in many of his works. The compositions vary, but the figure of the saint always corresponds to the type of figure here. We are grateful to Dr Marco Riccomini for attributing this painting to Francesco Trevisani. He points out that due to its small format, this is a particularly fine example for a painting intended for private devotion. On the basis of its colour palette, which is reminiscent of the painter's Venetian origins, he dates the picture to the artist's early Roman years. Dimensions 64 x 53 cm Artist or Maker Francesco Trevisani Medium Oil on canvas Provenance Italian private collection.. Notes VAT: Margin scheme
