Each Immortal's power can be transferred to an attribute that can bestow life or destroy evil. Their identities varied before becoming Immortals, including aristocrats, scholars, officials, Daoist monks, vagrants; therefore, they represented multiple auspicious signs such as prosperity, longevity, achievement in the government and culture.
