From the collection 'Once upon a time in My West' (2010-2014). In her youth, Felieke van der Leest dreamt about the Wild West. There was a desire to be able to live as a Red Indian: so she could wear their clothes richly embroidered with bright-coloured beads and furnished with long fringes. In 2010 it resulted in jewelry that is a carefree synthesis of the craft of the goldsmith, synthetic beasts, crocheting and knitting. Animals have always played a central role in her life since childhood. All of the animals she uses for her designs are mass-produced and moulded in hard plastic, with the intention of serving as toys for children. She gives the animal figures a new identity through clothing and accessories. The animals go far beyond a children's play room. Using various props, they are placed in a situation that reveal their secret lives and characteristics.
