By Hododa, signed Hododa seiJapan, Meiji period (1868-1912)The shallow rounded sides rising from a short tapered foot, the interior richly enameled and gilt with variously shaped reserves enclosing scenes of everyday life with dense groups of people, including courtiers, warriors, merchants, peasants, and musicians, interspersed with decorative roundels as well as stylized leaves and banners, with a band of shaped reserves enclosing floral and sun designs against a diapered ground below the rim.
