Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)Of rectangular form, the roiro ground finely decorated with gold takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, and e-nashiji with leafy scrolling vines interspersed with various mons. The interior and underside with roiro and the interior further with gold fundame edges. The long sides of the box with circular metal fittings suspending loose rings and with the original cord.SIZE 15.4 x 14.3 x 8 cmCondition: Very good condition with minor wear, few small nicks, and some minor crackling to edges.Provenance: Ex-collection Claudio Perino, a collector with a keen interest in Japanese, Chinese and Far Eastern cultures. His collection consists of over 2000 works of art, partly loaned to the Museum of Oriental Arts (MAO) in Turin, Italy and to the Museo delle Culture (MUSEC) in Lugano, Switzerland. An exhibition of Kakemono scroll paintings was on view in the MUSEC until end of April 2021.
