Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)The neatly polished and stained ivory tusk vase standing on four lobed feet, the sides very finely worked in the Shibayama technique with opulent flowers and trees with butterflies and birds, the lid further decorated with kiku (chrysanthemum) flowers and two butterflies.HEIGHT 9.3 cmCondition: Good condition with some minor scattered losses to inlays.Provenance: Dutch private collection.This item contains ivory, rhinoceros horn, tortoise shell, and/or some types of tropical wood and is subject to CITES when exporting outside the EU.
