時尚的改變，從20世紀90年代開始，橘色彩寶的需求與喜愛越來越增加，但橘色的彩寶卻罕見且昂貴，Mandarin Garnets和Hessonite Garnet陸續被各大品牌使用。相較其他石榴石Hessonite較易獲得，價位也就更平易近人。鈣鋁榴石顏色變化多樣，主要有綠色、橙黃、棕黃、玫瑰紅等石，英文名稱"Grossular"來自醋栗（gooseberry）的植物學名"grossularia"。黃橙到紅橙色的鈣鋁榴石，因為像肉桂，而被稱為肉桂石或桂榴石(hessonite)。在鈣鋁榴石中，橙黃色至黃綠色形式是最常用作寶石的品種。
