Provenance: 'The Van Cauwenbergh Collection', auctioned in Hong Kong in 1989. Charles Le Roy founded the oldest watch manufactory in France in Paris in 1764. Le Roy was a welcome guest at the Louvre and highly appreciated by the royal couple and the entire court. He was renowned for the perfection of his watches, a large number of them could be found in court palaces and mansions across Europe.
