Ca. Ø36.5mm, ca. 30g, 18K gold, both sides set with half Oriental pearls, back with an extremely rare relief work, background frosted, objects polished, representation of 2 butterflies on a see-saw, above a quiver with arrows and Prince-of-Wales feathers, bordered by a fine enamel rim, signed and numbered verge movement, signed very fine gold/enamel dial, blued steel hands, intact, but cleaning necessary. Unfortunately, the tip of the minute hand is missing and a half pearl is also missing, otherwise is this very fine watch in an almost perfect condition. Provenance: Sotheby's New York Important Watches Estimate 12,000 - 18,000 USD (https://www.cortrie.de/go/AJA). The name 'Moulinié' goes back to a firm Moulinié & Bautte, which was a manufacturer of cases for pocket watches for Jean-Francois Bautte (1793-1802) in Geneva in the last decade of the 18th century. The company, now called 'Moulinier, Bautte and Cie', produced watches from 1804. From 1808 to 1821 it was already known for its high quality watches. In 1826 the partners separated: Bautte formed 'Bautte & Moynier', Moulinié formed 'Moulinié Aine & Cie.', which became 'Moulinié Frères & Cie' after 1840. Moulinier, Bautte & Moynier produced some of today's most wanted form watches and enamel watches, including the famous enamelled pistols with concealed watches.
