Militaria: Flying Officer Claude McLaren Reid , Royal Air Force , WWII / World War II / Second World War: a collection of ephemera relating to the subject's imprisonment at Boei Glodock Batavia prisoner of war POW camp , Java, during which the subject carved a commemorative table. The table was decorated with a central image of the gaol interior and inscribed with the names of RAF prisoners. After liberation, the table was rediscovered and fitted with a plaque bearing the signature of Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma KG GCB OM GCSI GCIE GCVO DSO ADC PC FRS, Supreme Commander South East Asia Command. The collection includes a personal letter relating to the plaque, from Mountbatten to Mclaren Reid, bearing his signature. Together with several monochrome photographs of the subject, a pamphlet entitled 'The Tale of a Table', press cuttings and numerous letters.
