A pair of 19th century Chinese famille rose 'Wu Shuang Pu' plates, Qing dynasty, each decorated with a gilt rim and in polychrome enamels featuring four of the original forty characters from the book of woodblock prints depicting the imagined heroes and heroines from the Han Dynasty to the Song Dynasty (3rd century BC to 13th century AD) by Jin Guliang, originally published in 1694, each character accompanied by their title and respective calligraphic inscription, all surrounding a central peony roundel centred by an elegant lady reading to/w another similar plate with four different 'Wu Shuang Pu' characters, all 20 cm diameter (3)
