A LOT OF EIGHT STONE COIN-SHAPED BEADS
Himalayan region, presumably Tibet or Nepal, 19th century or earlier. The lot consisting of eight coin-shaped beads, where two beads are carved from agate respectively jasper (one semi translucent, in a warm orange and brownish hue and the second one opaque of a dark brown colour) as well as six stone beads covered in black and dark brown lacquer. All are hand painted in white and depicting various motifs including symbol of eyes, abstract animals, mandalas, floral and geometric decorations.
Condition: Good condition with some losses and chips to the surface.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
