A BLUE EMBROIDERED ‘DRAGON’ ROBE
China, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) to Republic period (1912-1949). The rich blue ground finely worked on the front and back with eight five-clawed dragons couched in gold-wrapped threads in pursuit of flaming pearls, amidst multi-colored cloud scrolls, bats and cranes, all above lingzhi sprigs and auspicious emblems rising from rolling and crashing waves above the lishui band. The collar and sleeves with similar decoration against a black ground.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear, little soiling and traces of use, few loose threads, and tears to the sleeves.
