A STONE INDUS VALLEY STYLE FIGURE OF A FERTILITY GODDESS
20th century. A work of a sculptor, reminiscent of the famous Indus Valley human figurines (3300 BCE to 1300 BCE). Of figural shape carved from a mottled white and green stone, depicting a seated fertility goddess, with broad hips and slender waist up to prominent breasts held aloft bent arms. The neck carved with a set of necklaces and the face, showing pierced holes for eyes and mouth, is flanked by projecting hair ornaments.
Condition: Very good condition.
Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
