Antique Blue & Iron Red Underglazed Medicine Suantouping Vase W/Lan Caihe on Qilin Motif (From a Vietnamese Royal Family) - This antique medicine suantouping vase is of typical form with a pear-shaped body and a slender neck rising to a garlic bulb-shaped mouth. The vase is elaborately decorated in iron red and blue underglaze with the mythological figure Lan Caihe atop a Qilin. Lan Caihe is one of the Eight Immortals and is considered the patron of florists. The Qilin is a good omen, and is also thought to occasion prosperity, serenity and fertility. The base of the piece bears a double circle marking in underglazed blue. This piecees from the estate of a Vietnamese Royal Family (the family now lives in the United States, and wishes to remain private as they still have relatives living in Vietnam).
