Description
Translation provided by Youdao
1st-3rd century AD. A silver panther head mount formed with a snarling expression, engraved details to the face, pointed ears angled backwards, emphasizing the aggressive nature of the beast. 5.9 grams, 13mm wide (1/2"). From the late Alison Barker collection, a retired London barrister; from her collection formed 1960s-1990s. The choice of a panther as a motif for a bracelet or a brooch, to which this piece likely once belonged, can be linked to the cult of Bacch (Dionys for the Greeks), for whom the panther was a favourite animal.
