溥侗，自幼在上书房按部就班地读经史，学作诗文，钻研琴、棋、书、画，收藏金石、碑帖，精于治印，酷爱剧艺。世人尊称为“侗五爷”，溥侗精于古典文学和文物鉴赏，并通晓词章音律。1927年曾任“乐律研究所”所长，后被清华大学、女子文理学院等校聘为教授，讲授昆曲。1934年，赴南京任国民政府蒙藏委员会委员；1935年11月，当选为国民党第五届候补中央监察委员，文化事业计划委员会委员。
