signed SHANGYI,dated 1978 year ink and color on linen, hanging scroll Jin Shangyi is a 20th-century Chinese painter known for his realistic depictions of nudes, nationalistic scenes of Revolutionary-era China, serene landscapes, and portraits. Jin’s style is centered wholly in the tradition of European academic painting, rendering his subjects with carefully observed and realistic detail. Born in December 1934 in Jiaozuo, China, the artist went on to study at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Peking, and later under the painter Constantin Maksimov in the Soviet Union. Today, his works are featured in the collection of the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. Jin lives and works in Beijing, China.
