Of convex form, with straight sides and base, the top edge lobed with central peak, attachment for a ribbon or band to either side, with openwork panel formed of circles enclosing diamonds with four-petalled flower to top. 14.5 by 8.5 cm CATALOGUE NOTEThe pattern of the openwork on this crown may be seen on a 13th century mirror attributable to Fars in the Victoria and Albert Meum (inv. no. M14-1950) and is an early geometric pattern widely ed on early Islamic Iranian bell-metal wares. The same mirror also features puffy-cheeked figures wearing tri-lobed crowns much like ours, of a type which may be seen on Iranian wares of the 13th century (Melikian-Chirvani, Islamic Metalwork from the Iranian World 8-18th Centuries, London, 1982, no. 105, p. 230).
