Persian astrolabe, with the date 1700-01. Planispherical astrolabe in hammered and engraved brass,prising a mother, a spider, four eardrums, as well as a nail and the horse attached to a pompom (missing Alidade). The mother is surmounted by a multi-lobed throne decorated with an inscription in Naskh script, part of a verse from the Koran (16:12) surrounded by a foliage of plant stems. The limb is divided into 360 °, divided by 5 ° intervals, subdivided for each 1 °, with the graduation in abjad. The outer rim is engraved with a thin crown of leaves. The interior of the mother is engraved with concentric and radiating lines containing the names of Iranian cities, with an inscription in the center giving the name of the sponsor and the date 1112AH./1700-01 AD. Probably apocryphal. The reverse features the square of shadows and the twelve signs of the zodiac engraved in the lower part. The spider bears the names and positions of 25 stars, 9 inside the ecliptic and 16 outside, with the signs of the zodiac inscribed on the trace of the ecliptic.
