豹斑石因其稀少而珍贵，蕴含着丰富的历史文化。豹斑石质器物多属唐代器物，中外博物馆均有收藏。《唐本草》记载：“其出掖县者，理粗质青白黑点，亦谓之斑石，初出柔软，彼人就穴中制作，用力殊少也。”豹斑石使用年份稍早，唐代最多，宋已少见，后世鲜有。至唐代已不入药用，雕刻生活赏玩器物颇多。整石圆雕而成，古朴雅致，加之年份久远所蕴含的古拙感，使之别具韵味，充分显示了唐代豹斑石独特的艺术魅力。
