Note: The present view was one which Bonington returned to several times over the course of his short working life, and depicts the Corso Sant’Anastasia looking toward the Corso Borsari, with the entrance to the Piazza delle Erbe at left and the baroque palace of historian and literato Count Scipio Maffei at right. It is closest inposition to Bonington's 1826 watercolour, taken from the same viewpoint in Verona, and today held in the V&A Museum, London [3047-1876], for which graphite sketches also exist. The artist additionally worked up the subject into two larger oils: one, dated 1828, is at the Yale Center for British Art [], and the other, dated 1826-7, was offered at Sotheby's, New York, 18 October 2021, lot 37.Please refer to department for condition report
