A Regency 'lion's pelt' decanter label, by Paul Storr, c.1811, the frosted, crescent-shaped centre embossed with the title 'CLARET', the chain possibly later, label 8.5cm wide Note: The design of this decanter label was inspired by the ancient Roman 'Warwick Vase, fragments of which were were discovered in 1770 at Hadrian's villa near Tivoli. Restored in the 18th century, the huge marble vase features a carved rendering of the pelt of the Nemean lion.Please refer to department for condition report The decanter label is in good overall conditionmensurate with age. However, there is some surface scratching and nicking noted. Some tarnish and fading to the gilding but generally fairly bright (please see photos). Chain probably later, gilt metal, with some repaired links.
