Ø32mm, ca. 25g, 18K gold, chatelaine ca. 75mm long, ca. 19g, 18K gold, very fine quality Louis XV case, relief in 4 different gold colours, high quality outer hinge, signed verge movement, Louis XV enamel dial (small craquelling), pink gold hands, chatelaine of exceptional quality, very elaborately worked, also in different gold colours, top with oval enamel plaque with representation of a lady in very fine painting, in museum condition with original box, movement starts ticking, cleaning rmended. The present watch was probably made by Ferdinand Berthoud (1727-1807) in Paris after he emigrated from Switzerland in 1747. In Paris he founded the renownedpany 'Berthoud à Paris'. Berthoud was not only an excellent watchmaker, but also the author of several books on the history, theory and practice of watchmaking (source: Dr. Crott).
