Dimensions: 15.375" (39.05cm) HWhite jade carved statue of Guanyin holding a water vase and standing on a pedestal with lobbed base. Surrounding Guanyin is a flaming mandorla and curling ribbons. The water vase is one of the eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune and contains the nectar of life. Speckles of russet jade are visible on the front and back of the statue, especially the pedestal and edges of the mandorla.Guanyin is the the goddess of mercy and considered to be the physical embodiment of compassion. She is all-seeing, all-hearing being who is called upon by worshipers in times of uncertainty, despair, and fear. Guanyin is based on the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. The white jade body is an auspicious stone associated with immortality and longevity. In addition it signifies that the ownder is steadfast, a gentleman, and upholds positive moral values. Jade is a hard material and nearly impossible to carve, thus it must be abraded. The abrasion of jade is a time-consuming practice that involves wearing away the stone with an abrasive substance, such as sand, water, or drilling tools. The detail and size of this Guanyin statue reflects the time-consuming and highly skilled process of the artisan-craftsman. 白玉觀音坐像
