After George Henry Harlow (British, 1787 - 1819) Oil on Panel. Portrait of James Northcote, R.A., three-quarter-length, in a black coat and brown trousers, holding his spectacles in his right hand, in an interior with inscription 'James Northcote/RA/Portrait of/himself' (on reverse of the panel) The present work presumably derives from Frederick Christian Lewis Senior's engraving of Harlow's 1817 portrait of James Northcote, which was published on 1 June 1824 by Hurst, Robinson & Co. Examples of the engraving can be found in the collecton of the National Portrait Gallery, London. Provenance: Christie's British & European Art July 2020 Auction Sight Size: 20.5 x 16 in.
