Jean de La Fontinelle (French 1900 – 1974), an Art Deco crackle glazed earthenware ‘Pheasant’ group, c.1932, signed on the base ‘Fontinelle’, with retailers label ‘Cadeaux J. Huysentruyt, Rue de Ribaucourt 39, Brux-Maritime’, Cast, with two stylised pheasants with an integral elongated base, covered with a ‘crackled’ cream glaze, 29 cm high, 55 cm long Literature: Patrick Malaureille, ‘Craquelés – Les animaux en céramique 1920-1940’, Massin Editeur, 1993, p.49 ( a single but similar pheasant by Fontinelle is illustrated).Natural wear to base in keeping with age.
