Description
Translation provided by Youdao
late Qing dynasty, each on hook and chain, cylindrical container sliding under decorative outer case, one of pierced hexagonal form, one enamel decorated vase form, 7 in. and 8-1/2 in. Note: Needles were a valued woman's sewing tool and were carefully secured in a special case hanging from the belt. This Chinese silver needle case has 6 sides, each with a delicate pierced design, the bottom weighted with a large amber bead. The vase-form needle case is complete with all its chain extensions, which is rare to find. The piece has retained its original chain extensions, each terminating with a whimsical charm. At its topmost is a hook which would affix the entire piece to a belt. This is similar in design to a chatelaine. Provenance: Private Collection, Colorado
