(Japanese, 1924-2000) Stone - 1, edition 5/50, signed "Haku Maki" lower right, artist's seal lower left and upper right, woodblock print, 19-1/8 x 12-7/8 in.; carved and painted wood frame, 24 x 18-1/2 in. Note: Haku Maki was a Japanese artist associated with the sosaku-hanga movement of the 20th century. He studied briefly under the printmaker Onchi Koshiro following the end of WWII, and throughout his artistic career became known for his use of texture and for his striking compositions and arrangements of kanji. Provenance: Washington Print Fair, Jeanne Davidson Fine Art, sold April 1997 for $475 (accompanied by copy of receipt); Private Collection
