A SILVER ACHAEMENID FIGURE OF A BEARDED MAN CIRCA 4TH CENTURY B.C. possibly from the Oxsis Cast and chased silver statuette; a bearded man in Persian costume standing with his right arm hanging beside his side and holding in his left hand a bundle of rods (barsom) in front of his chest; long narrow beard with whiskers and moustache; heavy eyebrows, large eyes and regular nose; wears a short jacket with close sleeves, gilded in front, and at the back ornamented with a vandyked band in cross-hatching; a skirt of many folds falls to his feet and diverges from a vertical raised median band which is decorated with herringbone; wears a low cylindrical headdress with a flat top covering the ears and bound with a raised fillet knotted at the back where the ends hang down; around the top is a flat band engraved with crenellations; below the headdress the long hair forms a large roll, projecting on each side of the face, and conventionally decorated behind with dotted circles; both feet are pierced at the instep.Height 11cmSimilar seen in British Museum ex adda collection since 1920's(Property of a London gentleman; before that in the private collection of a Kensington collector; acquired in Austria in 1993; previously in the Trimbacher collection; formerly acquired in Germany in 1980.)
