Amethyst and gold braceletThe Powers Museum, of Carthage, Missouri was established from the generous gift of Marian Powers Winchester. A citizen all her life, she treasured the history of the town. Upon her death in 1981, she left a bequest to the City of Catherage "for the establishment and operation of a museum for the citizens of Carthage and the surrounding area." It was named to honor her parents, Dr. Everett Powers, (1869-1954) and Marian Wright Powers (1880-1969). It was opened with the intention to offer a look into Carthage town history and the perspective of the everyday citizen. It operated for 38 years and recently closed it's doors, due to complications from COVID. The present lot was owned by Marian and part of her personal collection. It was custom-made for her in Mexico City in the 1950s. While never displayed in the museum, it was held in the vault for over 33 years.
