Model no. 1617 with scroll handles. Decorated with a labelled view in a rectangular gilded frame surrounded by arabesques, with a small gilded still life of a sabre, gun, standard and munition pouch on the reverse. This unusual view of Fürstenwalde shows two telegraph poles that were part of the Prussian Optical Telegraph. Built in 1832 by order of King Frederick William III, the telegraph line was the longest in Europe at the time. Six signal arms attached to the masts could be operated via a cable to transmit optical signals from station to station.
