19th century Japanese kozuka (sword knife) handle with multimetal inlays depicting a night scene of crescent moon with a bird in flight by a stone temple lantern and a stream. The body is made out of shakudo (an alloy of copper and gold with its characteristic black patina resembling lacquer), excellent crisp work, wonderfully captured mood of the scene, superb depiction of various grasses and lantern texture, silver, copper and bronze inlays, gilding, in very good condition.
