AN AGATE SNUFF BOTTLE, QING DYNASTYChina, 1644-1912. Of tapering form, carved with a bird perched on a blossoming branch that wraps around the bottle, the domed stopper with a bird finial. The translucent stone of a deep honey-brown tone with pale inclusions.Provenance: Peter and Patricia Crofts Collection. Peter Crofts (1924-2001) was a Fleet Air Army volunteer, sailor, and member of the British Antique Dealers Association. Peter and his wife Patricia were keen collectors of antiques. In 1948 Peter met Major Bernard Edinburgh of Stamford, a well-known and knowledgeable antique dealer who encouraged him to set up a business and trade himself.Condition: Good condition, nibbling to the upper rim and stopper, minuscule chips, the stopper glued onto the bottle.
