At the time of assay (1810) the holder of the crest and motto would have been John STUART of Inchbreck House nr Glenbervie (1751-1827) the 8th Laird, a lawyer and preacher, who was professor of Greek at Marischal College Aberdeen and in 1783 co-founder of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Significantly in 1810 he married Margaret MOWAT (died 1821) daughter of George MOWAT, a merchant of Aberdeen. The 8th Laird was the second son of Dr John STUART (1710-1792) 6th Laird by Elsie LAWSON (1721-1755) and he succeeded his elder brother Dr. David STUART who was the 7th Laird.
