Cast seated in padmasana on a beaded double lotus base, hands raised before the chest in dharmachakra mudra, the face with a serene expression with downcast eyes and slight smile, framed by pendulous earlobes adorned with lotus earrings, he wears a five-pointed crown, necklaces and armlets, a diaphanous shawl around the shoulders and a dhoti around the waist, traces of gilt remaining, the base inscribed as follows: Inscription on front: Great Ming-dynasty, the sixth year of the Tianshun-period, Ming year 1462. Inscription on back: Bhikshu Hong. (Monk/holy person by the name of Hong ...last sign not readable). The religious woman, the nun Wang Miaogui. The sign for ”nun” is somewhat uncertain here. There are two names on the figure. It may be that Wang Miaogui is honouring Bhikshu Hong ... with the sculpture. Period: Ming (1368‑1644), 15th century, dated 1462. Height: 33.5 cm.
