The tall sides sloping slightly inward from the flat circular base, set with an elaborately carved handle in the form of a scaly dragon, decorated in deep relief with a continuous scene of figures on horseback in a rocky landscape, with a shield-shaped panel bearing the inscription: ”From L N Monereff / To / His Late Messmates / H M S Pelorus / Sept. 1865”.
