PROPERTIES FROM A NOTED COLLECTION OF JADES AND SNUFFBOTTLES *A WHITE JADE ‘BAT AND PEACH - FÚSHÒU - 福寿’ PENDANT CHINA, QING DYNASTY The stone of white tone with minor orange russet inclusions is naturalistically carved as three peaches with curled tendrils and leaves together with a flying bat. The upper part is pierced with a hole. A small ring has been added for suspension purpose as a pendant. H: 4 cm Weight: 36,2 grams Note: The peach (tao - 桃) symbolizes marriage, spring, justice and especially Daoist immortality (longevity). The peach is one of the ‘Three Abundances’ also known as ‘Three Plenties’. A picture of a bat (fu- 蝠) can be a visual pun for ‘good fortune’ or ‘happiness’ (fu - 福) because both characters are pronounced ‘fu’. Therefore, a peach together with a bat convey a wish for ‘happiness’ and ‘longevity’: ‘Fu - Shou’ (福寿). IMPORTANT NOTICE: *This lot is under temporary importation.
