Moored s and Other Vessels on a CalmOil on panel, 37.8 x 49.8 cmProvenance:Private collection, the NetherlandsNote:Roosenboom was one of the best students of Andreas Schelfhout (1787-1870). He is best known for his summer and winter landscapes, in which the influence of his master is clearly recognizable, particularly in the low arranged horizon, great depth, and attention to narrative details. These elements are also convincingly reflected in the present lot, which depicts a rare subject in Roosenboom’s oeuvre, as he painted few seascapes and harbour views.Roosenboom had great success as a painter, which enabled him to make foreign study trips to Germany (1829), Scotland, and England (1835). His paintings can be found in the collections of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem, and the Rijksprentenkabinet in Amsterdam. Please note: condition reports and additional photos are available upon request: / +31 (0) 20 30 12 950.
