文房用具中有一类动物形砚滴，腹部中空，背部皆有一孔，孔内插一管柱，在虹吸原理下自动物腹腔内汲水于墨堂以研磨。早期为铜制，后多为瓷制，亦有以美玉、水晶等美石作为材料。以动物造型居多，有异兽、蟾、龟等。
此砚滴铜制，作瑞兽之形。瑞兽背部开有注水孔，体内中空，内部盛水，嘴部为流，口衔花杯。头生独角，两耳机警的伸向脑后，身披的鬃毛皮肤肌理均，形象生动，颇为传神。瑞兽腿足强健有力，肢体浑圆，造型饱满。包浆自然，雍容华贵，颇为精妙。
