The seated figure is shown holding a child on her raised knee. She is dressed in long, loose robes that are incised with foliate decoration and fall in folds around the body. Her face is carved with a slight smile and downcast eyes under upswept hair tied into a high chignon and partially covered by a long cowl centered by a tiara. The stone is of rich dark honeycomb brown hue, and the separately made soapstone base carved in rolling waves, of barbed quatrefoil outline, is of reddish tone. Height 12" Diameter 7"
