Isaac de Moucheron, Dutch 1667-1744- Neo-Classical architectural capriccios - a pair; each pencil, pen and brown ink, and watercolour on paper, each signed 'Par Moucheron.' on old backing paper, each 27 x 22.6 cm., a pair (2). Provenance: James Gallier Senior (1798-1866); and by descent to Dr Kenneth McLeod Jr (1930-2020); Private Collection, UK. Note: James Gallier (formerly Gallagher) was an Irish architect who moved from County Louth to New Orleans in 1834. He was responsible for designing several important buildings in Louisiana and Alabama which are now designated National Historic Landmarks. It is interesting to note similarities between Galliers architectural designs of Greek-revival buildings in New Orleans - such as Gallier Hall and the original St Charles Hotel - and the classicising visions depicted in these works. Please refer to department for condition report
