A late 17th century brass five pillar month going longcase clock movement striking on a bell via an outside countwheel, the 12-inch square brass dial with later added break arch, the matt centre with silvered subsidiary seconds and date aperture, the silvered chapter ring with black Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes, inscribed 'Jos Foster Exchange Alley', cornered with cast and pierced gilt mask and scroll spandrels, together with a pair of late 17th century month going brass cased weights (one with added securing nuts), housed within a later mahogany longcase clock case, the hood with moulded arch pediment and glazed door above an arch trunk door, plain base and bracket feet, height 213cm, with a Scottish painted bob pendulum. Note: Joseph Foster is a recorded London clockmaker, apprenticed in 1684, gaining his freedom from the Clockmakers Company in 1691 and working from his Exchange Alley London address until 1707.
