Among them, works by Jin Pinqing (Chinese, active 1862 - 1908) are highly sought after for their exceptionally graceful birds and flora painted on them. Jin Pinqing wworked for the Jingdezhen imperial kiln factory and was regarded as one of the top three Quanjiang masters of the late Qing dynasty, together with Cheng Men and Wang Shaowei. Jin PIngqing excelled at landscapes, flowers, birds and figure paintings. The pen holder has a well-defined shape and is covered in delicate, clear white glaze. The outside of the brush holder shows an auspicious scene of a lively magpie resting on a plum branch below the plum blossom. The inscription is an excerpt from the poem "Wild Magpie" by the famous Song poet Ouyang Xiu. The painting on the vase imitates the style of Qi Baishi's art. The bird and the plum tree, the poem and the painting, all complement each other well. The brush holder is marked "Year of Gengchen, the Sixth Year of Guangxu".
