Ca. 200-300 AD A well defined bronze brooch with a lunate body gripped by a couchant lion; two shallow circular recesses in the arms of the crescent with raised discoid cell to the centre, with remains of enamelling; the lion with a curled tail and detailing to mane, head and face, its hind legs forming the pin lug; pin and catchplate to reverse. Size: L:39mm / W:25.6mm ; 10.61g Provenance: From the private collection of an Essex gentleman; previously in an old British Collection, formed in the 1990s.
